What we do...
The Recreation Commission's main purpose is to oversee the Recreation activities for the Town of Bernardston residents. They plan and implement programming options, youth sports activities and special events throughout the year.
The Bernardston Recreation Commission is a six-member committee comprised of Bernardston residents that have an interest in promoting recreation in our Town! The members of the commission are elected and serve a three-year term.
Recreation commissions are responsible for a variety of tasks related to recreation in communities, including:
- Planning: Recreation commissions plan for the development and maintenance of recreational facilities, and for the acquisition of new sites.
- Program development: Recreation commissions develop and conduct recreation programs for the community.
- Facility management: Recreation commissions manage the land and buildings used for recreation, including playgrounds.
- Community engagement: Recreation commissions promote recreation and engage with the community to understand their needs and provide programs that meet those needs.
- Policy making: Recreation commissions create policies for the administration of recreation programs and facilities.
- Budgeting: Recreation commissions review and recommend capital expenditures for parks and recreation in annual budgets.
